Hamilton wins the Bahrain Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton made it back to back victories after winning the Bahrain Grand Prix at the Sakhir Circuit. It was a brilliant day for Mercedes as Nico Rosberg claimed second place whilst Sergio Perez enjoyed his best race result of the season to finish third. 



My Opinion:

Mercedes - Hamilton (winner), Rosberg (2nd). Perfect result for Mercedes who took maximum points thanks to Hamilton and Rosberg's brilliant drives. However, Hamilton has carved out a slight edge over Rosberg after coming from second on the grid to pass Rosberg and hold on for the win. Impressive driving from both and I can't wait to see who comes out on top between the two over the course of the season - at the moment, advantage Hamilton.
Force India - Perez (3rd), Hulkenberg (5th). Force India enjoyed their best result of the season so far after a tremendous drives from both Perez and Hulkenberg. Perez, who has failed to finish inside the top ten all season, converted a great start into an amazing result after taking the final spot on the podium. Meanwhile, Mr. Consistent Nico Hulkenberg gained seven places from his starting position to finish 5th.
Mclaren - Button (DNF, 55 laps), Magnussen (DNF, 40 laps). Disastrous result for McLaren. After a strong start to the season, it all went pear shaped for the team today. Neither car finished the race as both cars retired deep into the race. Points were on the cards for both Button and Magnussen but in the end it was a race to forget for the guys at McLaren. 
Red Bull - Ricciardo (4th), Vettel (6th). Average and probably a disappointing result for Red Bull who failed to get a car on the podium. Ricciardo had the best chance of finishing third or higher but just lost out to Perez whilst Vettel could only realistically hope to gain as many places as he could and drove well to finish 6th.
Ferrari - Alonso (9th), Raikkonen (10th). Ferrari's worst result of the season so far. That was not the finish that Ferrari had envisioned, especially after a decent day of qualifying. Both cars scored points but that just isn't the required standard for the team. Alonso managed to make up one place for 9th but Raikkonen suffered from a terrible start off the grid, losing four places, which proved costly. 
Williams - Massa (7th), Bottas (8th). Decent day for Williams who are showing some consistent results. Massa equalled his best result of the season, finishing 7th whilst Bottas managed 8th. However, Bottas will be disappointed with that result after starting the race in 3rd. A poor getaway off the grid saw Bottas fall two places and he never recovered. 
Toro Rosso - Kvyat (11th), Vergne (DNF, 18 laps). Disappointing day for Toro Rosso who failed to score a single point. Vergne has been the faster driver this year but only lasted 18 laps whilst Kvyat improved by two places to finish 11th but that means it is the first race this year that Toro Rosso have not taken away a point. 
Lotus - Grosjean (12th), Maldonado (14th). Standard result for Lotus who are showing some signs of improvement. Points always looked beyond their reach this weekend but they will be buoyed by their move up the order from the start. Grosjean managed to improve by four positions whilst Maldonado climbed three spots.  
Sauber - Gutierrez (DNF, 39 laps), Sutil (DNF, 17 laps). Disastrous race for Sauber as neither car crossed the finish line. It was a disappointing day of qualifying for the team and things only got worse as both cars retired from the race. Gutierrez managed 39 laps but Sutil only 17 as the team endured a tormenting weekend in Bahrain. 
Marussia - Chilton (13th), Bianchi (16th). Marussia will be pleased that they were the faster team compared to Caterham in Bahrain. Chilton was the quickest driver from the teams at the back of the grid after equalling his best result of the season. Bianchi didn't endure such a brilliant race but managed to move up four places from 20th to 16th. 
Caterham - Kobayashi (15th), Ericsson (DNF, 33 laps). Mixed day for Caterham. Kobayashi showed some consistency but lost out in the battle with Marussia to Chilton, meanwhile Ericsson was only out on track for 33 laps before retiring the car.

Malaysian Grand Prix, Sepang (Race 2, 2014) Race

Hamilton wins the Malaysian Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton won his first race of the season as Mercedes dominate in Malaysia. Hamilton started on pole and expertly lead the race throughout to seal victory. Nico Rosberg managed to seal maximum points for Mercedes after moving past Vettel to take second place. Sebastien enjoyed a much better weekend and claimed the final spot on the podium after finishing third but it was clear to see that the Red Bull just didn't have the pace to stop or catch the Mercedes pair. 



My Opinion:

Mercedes - Hamilton (Winner), Rosberg (2nd). Perfect result for Mercedes who dominated in Malaysia. Hamilton started on pole and drove supremely to claim his first win of the season. Meanwhile, Rosberg passed Vettel at the start and held on for second place. Strong stuff from both drivers as Mercedes look set to be the dominant team this season.
Mclaren - Button (6th), Magnussen (9th). Decent race in the end for Mclaren. Points seemed to be on the card before the race and both cars produced the goods. However, Button clearly had the better day of it out there after moving up four places to take 6th. Magnussen found the race tougher and dropped down one place into 9th by the finish. Still a good start to the season for the team and they will be looking to keep improving.
Ferrari - Alonso (4th), Raikkonen (12th). Mixed fortunes for Ferrari. Alonso was his typical self and maintained 4th place throughout after a strong drive from the Spaniard. However, Raikkonen suffered from an early flat tyre which scuppered his race credentials. Despite his best efforts, 12th was the highest place Kimi could manage. Alonso seems to be getting the most out of the car but it still doesn't look to be where Ferrari want to finish races. 
Williams - Massa (7th), Bottas (8th). Strong race for Williams. After a terrible day of qualifying, Williams enjoyed a much better race which saw both cars bring home points. Massa climbed six places to finish 7th whilst Bottas rose seven places up the gird to finish one spot behind Massa in 8th. Overall, a poor Saturday cost them but they salvaged a good result on Sunday. I expect Williams to sort out their qualifying form next time around and would not be surprised to see them vying for top five places. 
Force India - Hulkenberg (5th), Perez (Retired, 0 laps). The good and the bad for Force India. Hulkenberg was very impressive all weekend and made it an even better one after moving up two spots on the grid to finish in 5th for Force India. However, Perez struggled in qualifying and paid the biggest price for it on the first lap after being forced to retire the car. Force India seem to have a fast car but will be looking for more from Perez in the next race to back up the strong results from Hulkenberg. 
Red Bull - Vettel (3rd), Ricciardo (Retired, 49 laps). Mixed results for Red Bull. Vettel got back to old ways with a strong qualifying performance but couldn't keep Rosberg behind him after finishing in 3rd. Disappointing for the team who clearly do not have a car that can match the pace of the Mercedes. Ricciardo made a quick start off the grid and found himself in 3rd after the first lap but unfortunately had to retire the car 7 laps before the finish. 
Toro Rosso - Kvyat (10th), Vergne (Retired, 18 laps). Disappointing race for Toro Rosso. After a strong first race in Melbourne, Toro Rosso had high expectations for Malaysia. However, despite a decent qualifying the team were unable to capitalise on it. Kvyat managed to secure the last point on offer but Vergne was unable to bring the car home after retiring 18 laps into the race. They seem like they can score points  but it must have been disappointing for the team that only one car made it to the finish. 
Sauber - Gutierrez (Retired, 35 laps), Sutil (Retired, 32 laps). Awful race for Sauber. It was a pretty terrible weekend for Sauber who failed to make the top ten in qualifying and failed to get a car to the finish line in the race. In fact, they were only involved in the race for 35 laps as Gutierrez shortly followed Sutil back to the pits. Better times are surely ahead for Sauber. 
Lotus - Grosjean (11th), Maldonado (Retired, 7 laps). Lotus struggling for form. Grosjean enjoyed a better race after a disappointing qualifying result and climbed five places up the order to finish just outside of the points in 11th. However, Maldonado endured even more pain after only lasting 7 laps to end a tough race weekend. Not what Lotus were hoping for but they are getting closer to securing those first points of the season.
Caterham - Kobayashi (13th), Ericsson (14th). Decent race for Caterham. The team were the faster of the two teams at the back of the grid whilst Kobayashi proved to be the star man. The Japanese driver managed to move himself into 13th place by the chequered flag which is two places better than he achieved in Melbourne. Ericsson will be pleased to have finished his first race in formula 1 and looked composed with his 14th place. 
Marussia - Chilton (15th), Bianchi (Retired, 8 laps). Slowest team on the grid. Chilton finished in 15th and was the last driver across the line but I'm sure the team will have gained plenty of useful data from that race. Bianchi endured a tough time of it after having to retire 8 laps into the race.

Malaysian Grand Prix Sepang (Race 2, 2014): Qualifying

Hamilton on pole in Malaysia

Mercedes continue their strong start to the season as Lewis Hamilton took his second pole position of the season at Sepang. Sebastien Vettel put his Red Bull on the front row in second whilst Nico Rosberg will start in third. Alonso put himself in fourth whilst Ricciardo will start ahead of Raikkonen on the third row for the Malaysian Grand Prix.



My Opinion:

Mclaren - Magnussen 8th, Button 10th. It was maybe not the qualifying session Mclaren had hoped for after their brilliant start to the season but they put themselves in with a chance of more success for the race. Magnussen could not reproduce the pace he displayed in Melbourne but out-qualified Button for the second time in a row. Button managed to make it into the top ten shootout this time but failed to reap the rewards after qualifying in 10th. I expect Mclaren to perform well in the race once again as they look to have built a strong car for the race day. Points should be secured from both drivers.
Mercedes - Hamilton pole, Rosberg 3rd. Another dominant display in qualifying from Mercedes who seem to have built the fastest car so far this season. Hamilton took his second pole position in as many races and looks set to be on that podium at the end. The team will hope Rosberg will be alongside him on the podium after the German starts from third once again. I'm expecting a Mercedes one-two here. 
Ferrari - Alonso 4th, Raikkonen 6th. Ferrari put in a strong performance in qualifying and seem in good shape to challenge for a spot or two on the podium. Alonso improved one place from his position in Melbourne and will be pose a threat in fourth whilst Raikkonen had a much better time of it here at Sepang and will be looking for a strong race from 6th.
Williams - Massa 13th, Bottas 18th. Disappointment for Williams in qualifying. It was not what Williams had in mind as both of their cars missed out on a top ten starting spot. Massa could only manage 13th but will surely find his way into the points tomorrow whilst Bottas had to take a three place penalty and will start 18th. Despite a poor qualifying effort, I'm sure the car is fast enough for the race to pick up points in the top 10. Massa should make it but Bottas will have work to do to move up the grid.
Force India - Hulkenberg 7th, Perez 14th. Mixed feelings at Force India. Hulkenberg has shown some consistency to qualify in 7th for a second time in a row but Perez seems to still be finding his way with his Force India, missing out on the top ten once more. It looks like points are on the books for the team but it will be interesting to see how Perez gets on in the race. 
Toro Rosso - Vergne 9th, Kvyat 11th. Toro Rosso have made it into the top ten once again this season and look to have built a reasonably quick car. Vergne was just that little bit faster than Kvyat again but both cars lost a few places compared to their qualifying positions in Melbourne. Both cars in good positions to take points from tomorrow's race but they will have to fight hard for them.
Sauber - Gutierrez 12th, Sutil 17th. Small signs of progress at Sauber. Sutil qualified 14th last time around but struggled to find some pace in Sepang, falling three places down to 17th. Gutierrez showed some positive signs of improvement after putting his car in 12th, 5 places higher than in Melbourne. Not too sure if Sauber will get too many points if any from the race but Gutierrez looks the more likely if they do.
Marussia - Bianchi 19th, Chilton 21st. Marussia find themselves near the back. Bianchi was the quickest man for the team today after qualifying two places ahead of Chilton. Their chances of taking a point from the race are very slim but they may be faster than the Caterham's.
Lotus - Grosjean 15th, Maldonado 16th. Lotus still not where they want to be. Although they made it into Q2 this time, the car just wasn't quick enough to make the top ten. Grosjean proved himself to be quicker than Maldonado but they will be desperate for some points in the race to lift the spirit of the team. 
Caterham - Kobayashi 20th, Ericsson 22nd. Caterham find themselves at the back of the grid. Kobayashi outperformed Ericsson again but the car was the slowest on the grid. Kobayashi may climb up the grid to gain a few places in the race but it will be about being faster than Marussia.
Red Bull - Vettel 2nd, Ricciardo 5th. Red Bull's back on track. After a disastrous race weekend last time around, Red Bull have something to be more upbeat about as both of their cars put on a decent display. Vettel was narrowly beaten to pole position by Hamilton but will fancy his chances of winning from second. Ricciardo was not as quick as he was in Melbourne but still managed to get himself on the third row. A strong chance of seeing a Red Bull on the podium and even two if Ricciardo can maintain a strong race.

Australian Grand Prix, Melbourne (Race 1, 2014) Race

Rosberg wins in Melbourne

Nico Rosberg won the season opening race in Melbourne ahead of Mclaren's Kevin Magnussen. The Mercedes driver, who started the race in third, climbed two places on the first corner to lead the race and held on to win the Australian Grand Prix. Even more impressive was the debut drive of Magnussen who in his first ever Formula 1 race took second place in what looks to be a much more promising year for Mclaren. Despite finishing and celebrating on the podium, Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo was disqualified after the race which meant that Jenson Button will claim third place. 



My Opinion:

Mclaren - Magnussen (2nd), Button (3rd). What a great day and start to the new season for Mclaren. The team failed to achieve a single podium throughout the whole of last year but they started with a bang this time around. Magnussen was truly world class on his debut to come home in second. What a start to the young driver's career that was. Jenson Button didn't get to celebrate on the podium but was moved up to third spot after Ricciardo's disqualification. It was a tough year for the Brit last season but brighter and better things look set to come around the corner for him. 
Mercedes - Rosberg (winner), Hamilton (DNF). Mixed emotions at Mercedes. The team will be delighted that Rosberg was able to bring home the victory but to lose Hamilton in the second lap must have felt like a major blow. Nevertheless, Mercedes look to have built the fastest car so far this year and will be looking to score some heavy points whilst Hamilton will be looking to bounce back in the next race. 
Ferrari - Alonso (4th), Raikkonen (7th). Standard race for Ferrari. I'm sure the team would have hoped for a better result as it is Ferrari but both drivers took home points. Alonso was able to gain one place up to fourth whilst Raikkonen moved into the top ten and finished 7th. Not the best but certainly not the worst result Ferrari could have hoped for. 
Williams - Bottas (5th), Massa (DNF). Williams have seemingly produced a fast car this year but only one driver was able to bring their car home. Bottas had a very strong race, moving up from 15th on the grid to finishing 5th. Encouraging signs for Bottas but disappointment looms in the garage of Massa who didn't complete a single lap. Hugely frustrating for Massa and the team but there are some good signs for the bigger picture. 
Force India - Hulkenberg (6th), Perez (10th). Decent start to the season for Force India. Hulkenberg had a good race and moved up a place into 6th whilst Perez managed to take home that final point on offer in 10th. A pretty solid result for the team who will be looking to build on today's good performance. 
Toro Rosso - Vergne (8th), Kvyat (9th). Great day for Toro Rosso. It seems as though the team have built a fast car for qualifying but the race pace is a little slower than they would have liked. Despite this, both drivers brought home important points for the team. Vergne dropped two places down to 8th whilst Kvyat fell down one into 9th. Encouraging start to the season and they could be a surprise this year.
Sauber - Sutil (11th), Gutierrez (12th). Sauber just miss out. Despite both cars making it to the end of the race, the team just missed out on securing a point. Sutil brought the car home in 11th just ahead of Gutierrez who finished in 12th. The team will undoubtedly have learned so much from the data they took from the race that it wouldn't surprise me if they picked up a point or two from the next race.  
Marussia - Chilton (13th), Bianchi (14th). Marussia proved themselves to be reliable. Although they were the slowest team on track to finish, both of their cars did actually finish the race. Chilton managed to stay ahead of Bianchi in the inter-team battle which is good viewing for the British fans. 
Lotus - Grosjean (DNF), Maldonado (DNF). Torrid day for Lotus. It has been a completely disastrous weekend for the team as their cars started from the back of the grid whilst neither car made it to the end of the race. Maldonado lasted 29 laps whilst Grosjean was out there for 43 laps. Things can only get better for Lotus and there will be plenty of pressure for them to improve in the next race. 
Caterham - Ericsson (DNF), Kobayashi (DNF). Disappointment for Caterham. It was certainly not the start to the season that Caterham had in mind. Kobayashi didn't make it to the second lap whilst Ericsson could only manage 27 laps. 
Red Bull - Vettel (DNF), Ricciardo (DSQ). Despite dominating the sport for the last couple of seasons, it turned out to be an absolute nightmare start to the new season. It started badly when Vettel retired after three laps but they thought they had a podium finish when Ricciardo came in second. However, after the race had been completed the stewards disqualified Ricciardo from the race for not supplying the right fuel sample. Consequently, they came away from the first race with absolutely nothing. I'm sure they will be back strongly in the next race though.

Australian Grand Prix: Melbourne (Race 1, 2014) Qualifying

Hamilton takes Pole in Melbourne

The Formula 1 season starts again for the 2014 campaign in Melbourne amongst some of the biggest rule changes in a generation. Mercedes will be delighted with the way they started the year as their car looks to be the quickest. Hamilton sealed pole position for the first race of the year whilst Ricciardo sits alongside him on the front row. Rosberg took third whilst an impressive debut from Mclaren rookie drive Magnussen claimed fourth. Last years champion Sebastien Vettel had a poor qualifying, only managing 13th spot on the grid. All in all it is set up to be an exciting opening race to the season with Mercedes looking to dominate from the start.

My Opinion:

Mercedes - Hamilton (pole), Rosberg (3rd). What a great day for Mercedes who were by far the best team in qualifying. Hamilton takes pole and will fancy winning the first race of the season whilst Rosberg looks set to be on the podium. 

Red Bull - Ricciardo (2nd), Vettel (13th). A mixed day for Red Bull. New driver Ricciardo looked impressive and put his Red Bull on the front row but Vettel had a tough day and was knocked out in Q2. It would be a great story if Ricciardo can finish on the podium but even better if he can win in front of his home crowd. Vettel should get himself in the points and it will be a case of how far up the grid he can propel himself.

Ferrari - Alonso (5th), Raikkonen (12th). It seems like Ferrari still lack pace in their car as Alonso could only manage 5th behind the Mercedes, Red Bull and Mclaren. Alonso will pick up some points but I'm not convinced he will be on the podium. Raikkonen is back at Ferrari but struggled in Q2. The iceman should get amongst the points but it was not result he'd hoped for today. 

Mclaren - Magnussen (4th), Button (11th). Signs of improvement for Mclaren. It was a horrid time for Mclaren last year who struggled their way through the season. However, a new car looks to have brought some belief into the team as it looks much quicker this year. Magnussen was incredible on his debut to put his car on the second row whilst Button just missed out on a place in Q3. Plenty of points available for Mclaren to take from this race tomorrow. 

Toro Rosso - Vergne (6th), Kvyat (8th). Toro Rosso had a decent qualifying result as both of their drivers made it through to Q3. Vergne was the faster of the two drivers but both will have great chances of scoring some points for the team. 

Force India - Hulkenberg (7th), Perez (16th). A mixed bag for Force India. Hulkenberg showed some pace and looks good to score some points from 7th but Perez was not at his best on his debut qualifying for his new team. From 16th on the grid, Perez will most likely find it tough to finish in the top 10 but he has a point to prove to Mclaren who dropped him from the team at the end of the last season. 

Williams - Massa (9th), Bottas (10th). Williams may be disappointed with that result as they look to have produced a pretty fast car this year. Massa and Bottas round up the top 10 but don't be surprised if they move themselves up the order in the race. 

Sauber - Sutil (14th), Gutierrez (19th). Encouraging signs for Sauber. Sutil was the star man for the team today, putting himself in 14th but Gutierrez struggled and will find it tough in 19th.

Caterham - Kobayashi (15th), Ericsson (20th). Caterham got one car into Q2 as Kobayashi took 15th but Ericsson was not on form today and will starts 20th. 

Marussia - Chilton (17th), Bianchi (18th). Marussia had two drivers who were pretty much on par with each other but it was Max Chilton who claimed 17th just ahead of Bianchi. 

Lotus - Grosjean (21st), Maldonado (22nd). Disastrous day for Lotus. Lotus had a decent season last year but got off to a nightmare start to 2014. Both cars lineup at the back of the grid as Grosjean and Maldonado have a shocker. The car should not be at the back as it is certainly not the slowest so I fully expect them to climb the order tomorrow but points look out of the question now.
