My Opinion:

Man of the Match: Aaron Ramsay

Arsenal finally ended years without a trophy after defeating Hull in extra time to win the FA Cup. After going 2-0 down inside the opening ten minutes, it looked like Arsenal were going to suffer the same fate that has greeted them in Cup finals in recent times. However, Cazorla got them back into the game with a stunning long range free kick into the far top corner before Koscielny equalised in the second half. They would argue that they should have been awarded a penalty for a number of incidences but one was not awarded and they had to dig in. Going into extra time it looked as though Arsenal were going to score a winning goal and they came very close to it when Giroud headed against the bar. The winning goal did eventually arrive in the second half of extra time when the ball fell to Ramsay who coolly finished with a low shot into the near bottom corner. A massive relief for everyone associated with Arsenal as it takes a huge weight off their shoulders now that they have ended their long run without a trophy.

Hull gave Arsenal a real run for their money and came so close to pulling off a major upset. They started the game brilliantly and managed to stun Arsenal after scoring two goals inside the first ten minutes. I thought they then had a great chance of hanging on but it was not to be. Cazorla scored a fantastic free kick to half their lead but they still had a good chance going into the second half 2-1 up. They spent most of the second period in their own half defending and it so nearly worked out for them. However, Koscielny levelled with twenty minutes to go and it suddenly started to look very bleak for Hull. They took it to extra time but they were pretty much playing for penalties. It all came undone for Hull in the second half of extra time when they went behind for the first time in the match after Ramsay put the Gunners ahead. However, they had one great chance to get back on level terms when Fabianski came rushing out of his box and missed the tackle on Aluko. It gave the Hull player an open goal to aim for but he decided to shoot from acute angle, missing across goal rather than crossing it into the box for a team-mate. Hugely gutting in the end for Hull who came so close but it was still a great occasion for their club to enjoy.

Best Goal: Santi Cazorla
