BMW PGA Championships, Wentworth Club: Day 4

Manassero wins PGA Championship at Wentworth

Matteo Manassero claims title after a birdie on the fourth play-off hole is enough to defeat a steely Simon Khan.

Manassero, Khan and Warren all finished on -10 at the end of their final rounds to top the leaderboard. This meant that they would go back to the 18th hole to begin a three-way play-off. Warren began the play-off with a wild drive into the trees before playing his third shot into the water putting him out of contention. Khan and Manassero both managed to keep their cool as they matched each other's scores right up until the fourth play-off hole. This time, Manassero opted to take driver off the tee in order go for the green in two whereas Khan used his three wood which forced the Englishman into going for the green from further back. Khan was  left to rue going for the green as his second shot found the water which meant Manaserro's birdie was enough to win the tournament.

After leading by two shots after four holes, Lee Westwood's driving began to falter which put all hopes of winning to bed after a one over round of 73. . Hook after hook left the Englishmen amongst the trees during the back nine which led to continuous bogeys. A rather disappointing end to the week for Westwood who has had trouble throughout his career closing out tournaments from winning positions.
