England v New Zealand Second Test: Headingley Day 1

First day's play abandoned after persistent rain at Headingley.

The start of the second Test match between England and New Zealand failed to get under way as continuous rain poured down throughout the day before officials abandoned play around 16:00 BST.

Fortunately, the weather forecast predicts clear weather for the weekend so the match should begin at 11:00 BST on Saturday morning. This will be a disappointing start to the second Test as players such as Finn, Bairstow and Compton are under close examination with places still to be decided for the upcoming Ashes series.

New Zealand were forced into making two changes as injuries to Watling and Martin mean that Bracewell and Guptill come into the side to replace them.
