2013 Race 8 - British GP: Qualifying

Hamilton claims pole position as Mercedes dominate

Lewis Hamilton beat Mercedes team mate Nico Rosberg to pole position as Mercedes dominated the qualifying sessions ahead of the British Grand Prix. The Red Bulls filled up the second row as Sebastien Vettel sits in front of Mark Webber. Force India enjoyed a brilliant qualifying result as Paul Di Resta put his car fifth on the grid whilst Adrian Sutil will start in seventh. A brilliant lap from Daniel Ricciardo meant that his Toro Rosso will start in sixth place. Lotus will take up the back order of the top ten with Grosjean beating Raikkonen to 8th on the grid. Fernando Alonso could not find any pace in his Ferrari in the third qualifying session and will start back in tenth place. It was another bad qualifying session for Mclaren as both cars failed to make it into the pole position shoot out.

My Opinion: Great to see Lewis Hamilton on pole position for his home Grand Prix. Mercedes really did well today with both cars on the front row and will be looking to stay ahead of the Red Bulls in the race. Sebastien Vettel will be looking for a quick start off the grid to get past one or both Mercedes after qualifying in third place. Brilliant laps from both Paul Di Resta and Daniel Ricciardo who will both be looking to capitalise and score some heavy points. Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso will be disappointed with their qualifying results as they are too far back to compete for the win. Disappointing to see both Mclaren's knocked out in the second qualifying session. They just can't seem to find any raw pace from their cars lately.

Top of the pile: Lewis Hamilton clinched pole in sensational style at Silverstone

Qualifying Result and Starting Grid for British GP:

Performance of the Day: Paul Di Resta for a stunning lap to qualify fifth on the starting grid in his Force India.
