Ashes Series Australia v England - First Test (Day 1) Brisbane

England start well in Brisbane

Australia 273-8

England got their Ashes campaign down under off to a decent start. They reduced Australia to 273-8 at the close of day one whilst Stuart Broad took five wickets. It looked like things were going really well for England as they reduced Australia to 132-6 during the afternoon session but a century partnership between Haddin and Johnson restored some hope into the hosts first innings. England took two further wickets during the evening session as Australia fought to 273-8 at the close of play.

My Opinion:
England played well today. Things were going really well until Haddin and Johnson proved tough to dismiss. Broad deserves plenty of plaudits for his exploits today and he managed to quieten the crowd in the best way possible. England will be looking to bowl the Aussies out for less than 300 tomorrow morning but Haddin looks as though he will be the main barrier to that.
Australia will be pleased with the way they fought their way back into the match today. It was looking rather disastrous after being reduced to 132-6 but an incredible effort from both Haddin and Johnson put them right back on track to a fair first innings score. Their aim tomorrow will be to pass the 300 run mark whilst limiting England to a low first innings score.
