Clarke and Haddin score centuries
Australia 570-9 declared lead England 35-1 by 535 runs (Australia lead Series 1-0)
Clarke and Haddin both scored centuries as Australia put themselves firmly in control of the second Test match. It was a great start to the day for the home side as Clarke and Haddin put on a 150 run strong partnership to lift Australia from 278-5 to 457-6. England struggled throughout the day but their hard work paid off as they claimed a further four wickets for just over 100 runs with Stokes dismissing both Clarke and Siddle. Early in the evening session, Clarke opted to declare on 570-9 in order to have a bowl at England for the final hour of play. This turned out to be a great decision for Clarke as Johnson bowled Cook out for 3 as England struggled to 35-1 at the close of play on day two.
My Opinion:
Really disappointed with England's bowling performance today. Australia should have been limited to under 400 but they managed to take full control of the game, scoring 570-9. England have no hope of winning the match from here and need to secure a draw from this position. Clarke and Haddin batted extremely well and deserved their centuries but even Harris managed to pass fifty. It was really gutting to see Cook go so early during England's short spell at the crease during the latter stages of the evening session but the rest of the order will need to stand up and be counted if they want any hope of claiming a draw.
