ICC Champions Trophy 2013 Day 9: South Africa v West Indies (Cardiff)

West Indies are eliminated as rain forces a draw with South Africa

South Africa 230-6 (31 overs) drew with West Indies 190-6 (26.1)

The rain thwarted any chance of the West Indies progressing further in the tournament after their draw with South Africa. The match looked set to be completed after a reduced 31 over tie was in motion. Frustratingly for the West Indies, the rain came with only five overs left to play in a situation where they needed 41 runs from 29 balls. It was good news for South Africa who now advance from the group stage into the semi-finals.

My Opinion: Terribly bad luck for the West Indies who looked to be in a winning position before the rain poured down. It was a decent game with South Africa posting a competitive total from 31 overs. With Dwayne Bravo and Darren Sammy at the crease, who knows what could have happened in those last five overs. South Africa have played well so far in the tournament and will be looking forward to a semi-final spot.
