2013 US OPEN: Round 3 at Medinah

Mickelson takes one shot lead into the final round of the US Open

Leaders: -1 Mickelson. Even Par Mahan, Swhartzel, Stricker.

Phil Mickelson shot a level par round of 70, which takes the American one step closer to the elusive US Open title he desires, with a one shot lead. Mickelson recovered from two bogeys on the front nine after making back to back birdies at 10 and 11 on his way to shooting 70. There are three competitors one shot behind as Swhartzel and Mahan both shot a one under 69 whilst Stricker kept his composure to post 70. There is still a strong English contingent in contention going into the final round as Justin Rose and Luke Donald are two shots behind after both went round in 71. Jason Day and Rickie Fowler both impressively shot under par scored of 68 and 67 respectively to stay in contention at +2 and +3. It was a poor third round for Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy as both fell out of contention. Woods began well with a birdie at the first hole but it became bogey golf for the world number 1 as he posted 77 to finish on +9. McIlroy could only post 75 after a similarly awful day left him on +8.

Performance of the Day: Rickie Fowler for a brilliant round of 67 that put the American into contention going into the final round.
