French Open: Day 10 - Quarter-Finals

Tsonga shocks Federer to progress into French Open Semi-Finals

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga caused a major upset as the Frenchman defeated Roger Federer in straight sets. It was looking comfortable for Federer in the opening set as he was first to break serve and take a 4-2 lead. However, Tsonga won eight out of the next nine games to take control of the match at 7-5, 3-0. Federer managed to break the Tsonga serve in both the second and third set but it was not enough to stop a dominant Tsonga. Is this Tsonga's year to win a Grand Slam? Tsonga will face an in-form David Ferrer for a place in the Final as the Spaniard eased past a spent Tommy Robredo whilst only conceding four games on his way to victory.
Meanwhile, on the women's side of the draw, Serena Williams was on the brink of defeat against her Russian opponent Svetlana Kuznetsova. Williams took the opening set in convincing style but Kutnetsova fought back in incredible fashion to level the match at one set apiece. Kuznetsova continued her heroics in the final set to take a 2-0 lead but Williams showed sheer determination to level the score at 3-3. It was then inevitable that Williams would win as she found her powerful serve once again to take her place in the Semi-Finals. Serena will now meet last year's finalist Sara Errani, who beat Agnieska Radwanska in straight sets.
