French Open: Day 8 - Fourth Round

Federer survives scare whilst Serena Williams powers through to the Quarter-Finals

Roger Federer was pushed all the way by Gilles Simon before triumphing 6-3 in the fifth set. It looked as though Federer would routinely stroll into the Quarters after winning the first set in style but Simon began to play some extraordinary tennis to take a two sets to one lead. Federer then won four games in a row to decrease the growing tension and tie the match at two sets apiece before restoring normality by taking the fifth set. It was a completely opposite story for number one seed Serena Williams as she powered through into the Quarters after only dropping four games in defeating Carla Suarez-Navarro in straight sets.
