French Open: Day 14 - Women's Final

Serena Williams beats Maria Sharapova to win French Open

Serena Williams defeated Maria Sharapova in straight sets to win the French Open. It was a fiercely contested match in which both players claimed multiple breaks of serve but Serena was able to hold her nerve at the end of each set to claim victory. There were chances for Sharapova to take the lead in both sets but unforced errors ultimately cost her the Final. Serena's heavy groundstrokes met their match against Sharapova but the Williams serve proved too much in the end for the Russian. A good spectacle for the spectators but it did prove that there is a vast difference in class in the Women's game.

Women's Final Result:

S.Williams (1) beat Sharapova (2) 6-4, 6-4

Boys' Doubles Final Result:

Edmund (GBR)/ Silva (POR) (3) beat Garin (CHI)/ Jarry (CHI) (5) 6-3, 6-3

Performance of the Tournament: Sara Errani for following up her Final last year with a semi-final this year. Another strong showing from the Italian fifth seed who played brilliantly throughout. If Errani had not met Serena Williams in the semi-final then the Italian could have gone all the way.
