2013 Race 13 - Singapore Grand Prix (Singapore): Qualifying

Vettel takes pole in Singapore

Sebastien Vettel claimed pole position ahead of Nico Rosberg for the Singapore Grand Prix. Vettel can take a big step towards the championship title by winning the race and is in a great position to do so. Rosberg took second place ahead of Romain Grosjean who qualified in third. Mark Webber will start in fourth ahead of Lewis Hamilton whilst Felipe Massa beat his Ferrari team mate Fernando Alonso to sixth. Jenson Button qualified 8th ahead of Daniel Ricciardo and Esteban Gutierrez to round up the top ten. Kimi Raikkonen and Sergio Perez both missed out on qualifying for the final session whilst Force India had a day to forget as Adrian Sutil could only manage 15th and Paul Di Resta was knocked out after the first session.

My Opinion:

It would be a major surprise if Vettel failed to go on and win from pole position here. A decent performance from both Rosberg and Grosjean who will be looking to be on the podium tomorrow. They will face tough competition from Webber and Hamilton who I expect to be strong in the race. Interesting to see Massa beat Alonso in qualifying. However, Alonso desperately needs to make the podium to keep his faint chances of the title alive. The usual suspects of Button and Ricciardo make up the back of the top ten and will be looking to maintain their places to pick up the points. Raikkonen has been struggling in qualifying recently and his form did not improve today after a disappointing effort puts him in 13th whilst Perez underperformed with 14th. The major shock of the day came when Di Resta was knocked out after the first session. Not what Force India would have wanted at all. My prediction for the race is that Vettel wins and that Rosberg and Hamilton make it onto the podium.
