Webber takes pole at Suzuka
Webber beat Red Bull team mate Vettel to pole position for the Japanese Grand Prix as Vettel edges closer to the championship title. Hamilton and Grosjean put themselves on the second row whilst Massa and Rosberg start on the third row. Hulkenberg and Alonso will start on the fourth row whilst Raikkonen and Button round off the top ten.
My Opinion:
Red Bull: A dominant display from the Red Bulls who will be looking for a one-two finish. Webber will look stay ahead of Vettel whilst Vettel will be looking to pass Webber at the start.
Ferrari: Massa outshone Alonso today and will start in 5th whilst Alonso will be disappointed with 8th. Alonso will need to finish in the top six to keep the title race alive.
Mercedes: Solid stuff from Mercedes. Hamilton will be looking for a podium finish whilst Rosberg will hope to improve from 6th.
Lotus: Mixed session for Lotus. Grosjean starred for his team and will hope for a podium finish whilst Raikkonen continues to protest against the team.
Sauber: Mixed session for Sauber. Hulkenberg will be looking to score points whilst Gutierrez will struggle to make the top ten.
Mclaren: Average day for Mclaren. Consistent stuff from both the drivers who will be looking to pick up valuable points.
Toro Rosso: Both drivers struggle at Suzuka. Ricciardo made it into the second qualifying session but Vergne was knocked out after the first. It could prove tough to score points from there.
Force India: Di Resta missed out on the top ten but Sutil was surprisingly knocked out after the first qualifying session.
Williams: An average day for Williams. Both cars made it through to the second session but that was about as good as it got for Williams.
Caterham: Pic and Van Der Garde will start near the back as expected but both beat a Marussia.
Marussia: Chilton stars in the battle of the back row cars to finish ahead of both the Caterhams but Bianchi will start from the back.
Qualifying Result and Starting Grid:
1. Webber (Red Bull) 1.30.915
2. Vettel (Red Bull)
3. Hamilton (Mercedes)
4. Grosjean (Lotus)
5. Massa (Ferrari)
6. Rosberg (Mercedes)
7. Hulkenberg (Sauber)
8. Alonso (Ferrari)
9. Raikkonen (Lotus)
10. Button (Mclaren)
Performance of the Day: Mark Webber managed to out qualify Vettel for once.
Shock of the Day: Sutil being knocked out in the first qualifying session for Force India.
Disappointment of the Day: Alonso only qualified in 8th.
