Soccer Saturday Game Week 7

Sunderland 1 v 2 Man United Gardner (5), Januzaj (55,61)

Januzaj double rescues United. Sunderland got off to the perfect start after taking the lead inside the first five minutes. Gardner was on hand to control a poor Vidic clearance and strike low into the far corner. United came back with a few chances of their own but Januzaj could only fire wide before Nani volleyed wide. Giaccherini had two chanced before half time but had a decent header saved before shooting high and wide as Sunderland took a 1-0 lead into half time. United came out in the second half a much stronger side and levelled within ten minutes of the restart as Januzaj converted from an Evra cross. Van Persie had a shot saved before Januzaj put United ahead in stunning fashion after volleying into the far corner. Van Persie had a great chance to score but could only poke wide in the last few minutes.

My Opinion:

My man of the match was Januzaj who changed the game around in the space of six minutes. Sunderland were the better team in the first half and deserved to lead at half time but they were just undone by two great goals. United and Moyes really needed to win today and Januzaj scored a special goal to win the match.

Man City 3 v 1 Everton Lukaku (16), Negredo (17), Aguero (45), Howard (og,70)

City comeback to beat Everton. It was Man City who started brightly but Kolarov could only find the side netting from a free kick. However, Lukaku put Everton in front after beating Lescott before curling a shot under Hart. City struck straight back as Negredo equalised by chipping over Howard from close range. Aguero curled a shot wide of the far post before putting City ahead on the stroke of half time after converting a low curling shot into the far corner. The second half was fairly even but City were awarded a penalty after Coleman fouled Zabaleta inside the box. City doubled their lead from the spot in rather strange circumstances as Aguero's penalty hit the post but went in off Howard from the rebound.

My Opinion:

My man of the match was Aguero for a great performance up front. A good win for City against an in form Everton side but they were awarded a rather dodgy penalty. Everton went ahead but could not stop the mighty attacking force that City possess.

Liverpool 3 v 1 Crystal Palace Suarez (13), Sturridge (17), Gerrard (pen,38), Gayle (78)

Liverpool too strong for Palace. Jerome had the first chance of the game but could only head wide. Liverpool then went 2-0 up in the space of four minutes as their strike partnership worked to full effect. Suarez put the home team ahead after finishing off a clever one two pass with Enrique before Sturridge doubled the lead with an individual effort and firing into the far corner. Puncheon lashed over the bar before Liverpool were awarded a penalty as Moxey fouled Sterling inside the box. Gerrard converted from the spot to put Liverpool 3-0 up. Moses managed to hit the crossbar from close range whilst Suarez had a shot saved before half time. Palace were better in the second half and even scored a consolation goal as Gayle headed in from a free kick at the far corner. Sturridge hit the post late in the game as Liverpool strolled to victory.

My Opinion:

My man of the match was Suarez for a great performance. Liverpool dominated the first half and deserved to lead at half time. However, Palace will be pleased with their second half effort as they improved immensely.

Cardiff City 1 v 2 Newcastle Remy (30,38), Odemwingie (58)

Remy double sinks Cardiff. Newcastle started well and went close through Remy early on but the Frenchman's shot from close range was saved before Sissokho had a shot tipped over the bar. Remy scored twice in the space of eight minutes to put Newcastle 2-0 up. His first came after a low shot found the near bottom corner whilst the second came after firing into the far corner. Cabaye hit a free kick that hit the post just before half time. Cardiff pulled a goal back just before the hour mark as Odemwingie coolly finished into the middle of the goal. Sissokho then had a shot saved before Cisse had a shot saved. Mutch came close in the final few minutes but his shot was saved as Newcastle held on for victory.

My Opinion:

My man of the match was Remy for scoring two crucial goals. Cardiff created chances but were just unable to find an equaliser. Newcastle deserved to win as they were the better team but Remy was simply the difference between the two sides.

Fulham 1 v 0 Stoke Bent (83)

Late Bent strike sinks Stoke. The first half was fairly mundane as both sides failed to create chances. Huth cam closest but his header was cleared off the line. It was a similar story for the second half as chances were few and far between. Huth had another header cleared off the line with ten minutes to go before Reither had a shot saved. However, it was Bent who scored a late winner after rounding the goalie and slotting home.

My Opinion:

My man of the match as Bent who provided the only bit of quality in the whole match. It was a poor game for both sides but Bent showed some class at the end to snatch victory for Fulham. Stoke were unlucky that Huth had two headers cleared off the line but they can't have too many complaints.

Hull City 0 v 0 Aston Villa

Spoils shared at KC stadium. Agbonlahor nearly put Villa ahead but his shot was turned round the post. Huddlestone had a shot saved just before half time as both teams cancelled each other out. Villa created a couple of chances in the second half but failed to find the net as Agbolahor curled wide and El Ahmadi had a shot saved.

My Opinion:

My man of the match was Agbonlahor who looked the most likely to score. Nothing really happened here and a 0-0 draw was a fair result.

Best Goal of the Day: Contenders: Remy, Sturridge and Januzaj. Winner: Januzaj volley.

Performance of the Day: Januzaj shone for United.
