Soccer Saturday Game Week 8

Chelsea 4 v 1 Cardiff City Mutch (10), Hazard (33,82), Eto'o (65), Oscar (78)

Chelsea comeback to thrash Cardiff. Ivanovic tried his luck from long range in the opening stages but could only blaze over the bar. It was Cardiff who took the lead in the tenth minute to stun Chelsea as Mutch took advantage of some poor defending from Ramires and Luiz to chip past Cech. Terry came close to an equaliser but his header at the near post came off the far post. Cech was forced into turning a decent shot round for a corner before Hazard levelled for Chelsea just after the half hour mark as Eto'o pounced on the goalie before laying it on a plate for Hazard. It took Chelsea twenty minutes in the second half to take the lead as Eto'o fired a shot inside of the near post. Mourinho was sent to the stands by the referee after the manager continued to voice his opinions towards the officials. Kim had a decent shot across goal saved by Cech before Oscar put the home side two goals in front after smashing into the roof of the net from the edge of the box. Willian had a shot saved after a fast break before Hazard scored his second of the game after a low shot from close range went under the goalie.

My Opinion:

My man of the match was Hazard who scored two goals. Chelsea were very strong in the second half and deservedly won in comfortable fashion. Cardiff battled hard for an hour but came undone by the class that Chelsea possess in their team.

Newcastle 2 v 2 Liverpool Cabaye (23), Gerrard (pen,42), Dummett (57), Sturridge (72), Yanga-Mbiwa sent off

Liverpool comeback twice to take draw. Suarez had the best chance of the opening twenty minutes but his header was cleared off the line. However, Newcastle took the lead soon after as Cabaye hit a long range strike which swerved into the far bottom corner. Sakho headed over before Sissokho had a shot well saved by Krul. Suarez had a close range shot saved before being fouled in the box by Yanga-Mbiwa and the referee had no choice but to show a red card and point to the penalty spot. Gerrard was on hand to level the match from the spot just before half time. Johnson had a low shot from the edge of the box saved soon after the break before Newcastle took the lead again as Dummett tapped in at the back post from a curling free kick. Suarez had a shot saved before Sturridge equalised for the away team after heading in from Suarez's pass. Liverpool came close to a winner but Suarez was denied by the crossbar and Krul late on in the game.

My Opinion:

My man of the match was Suarez who was a constant threat. Newcastle showed more determination today and were a vastly improved side. Liverpool will disappointed not to have taken the win here as they created the chances but it just wasn't happening for Suarez in front of goal.

Arsenal 4 v 1 Norwich Wilshere (18), Ozil (58,88), Howson (70), Ramsay (83)

Arsenal thrash Norwich at home. Cazorla went close in the opening five minutes but his free kick was saved at the near post. Arsenal took the lead after a brilliant team goal saw Wilshere slot past Ruddy from close range. Giroud was denied from close range by a great save from Ruddy before Fer had a long range dipping shot saved as half time approached. Snodgrass had the first chance in the second half but had a long range strike saved before Arsenal doubled their lead as Ozil headed in at the far post from Giroud's cross. Howson pulled a goal back for Norwich with twenty minutes to go after a low shot went in at the near post. Ramsay had a long range shot saved before restoring Arsenal's two goal advantage after beating two Norwich defenders and slotting home. Ozil completed the scoring with a late goal after tapping in Ramsay's cross.

My Opinion:

My man of the match was Ozil who played brilliantly in midfield. A great team performance from Arsenal who deserved to win. Norwich did well to get a goal back but were simply outclassed.

Man United 1 v 1 Southampton Van Persie (26), Lovren (88)

Southampton snatch late equaliser at Old Trafford. Van Persie tried an audacious shot but it went wide of the post before having a low shot saved by Boruc. Osvaldo had a tame effort saved by De Gea before United went ahead through Van Persie after slotting home Rooney's parried shot. Rooney came close to doubling United's lead before half time but his shot crashed back off the crossbar. Van Persie headed onto the crossbar from a Rooney corner on the hour mark whilst Januzaj had a long range effort well saved. De Gea denied Clyne with a save before Lovren tapped in from close range two minutes before the end to snatch a late equaliser for the Saints.

My Opinion:

My man of the match was Boruc for producing some quality saves. United were largely in control of the match and should have doubled their lead. However, as the game went on at 1-0, the tension grew in the crowd and it was no surprise to see Southampton level at the end.

West Ham 1 v 3 Man City Aguero (16,52), Vaz Te (58), Silva (80)

Man City claim tough away win at West Ham. Aguero put City ahead after 16 minutes after breaking the offside trap and slotting home. Aguero then had a shot saved at the near post before Toure was denied brilliantly as half time approached. Aguero scored his second soon after the restart to double City's lead by heading in at the near post from Silva's free kick. The Hammers pulled a goal back just before the hour mark after scoring a brilliant overhead kick from close range. Negredo smashed an effort onto the crossbar before Silva restored City's two goal lead after curling inside the far post from close range.

My Opinion:

My man of the match was Aguero for scoring two goals. West Ham were outplayed but did well to pull a goal back. Man City were dominant and deserved to take the three points.

Swansea 4 v 0 Sunderland Bardsley (og,57), De Guzman (58), Bony (pen,64), Chico (80)

Swansea run riot in second half. The first half was an even affair as both teams cancelled each other out. De Guzman came the closest with a long range free kick that just went wide of the post. Bardsley scuffed a shot from close range soon after half time before Dyer had a long range strike saved. However, Swansea scored twice in the space of two minutes as Bardsley got the last touch to put the home team ahead before De Guzman curled into the top corner from the edge of the box. Borini blazed a shot over the bar whilst Dyer had a volley brilliantly saved. Swansea were awarded a penalty just after the hour mark as Gardner fouled Britton inside the box and Bony converted from the spot. Michu had a header tipped round the post before Chico headed in from a corner to put the Swans 4-0 up.

My Opinion:

My man of the match was De Guzman for a strong performance. Swansea were brilliant in the second half and deservedly thrashed Sunderland. It was a very poor showing from Sunderland who will need to do much better if they want to stay in the league.

Everton 2 v 1 Hull City Mirallas (8), Sagbo (30), Pienaar (57)

Pienaar provides winner for Everton. It was a great start for Everton who took the lead after eight minutes as Mirallas struck from long range inside the near post. Hull battled back as Faye headed over from a corner before Sagbo equalised after smashing into the roof of the net from close range. It was a closely fought second half as Livermore shot wide from close range before Pienaar put Everton back in front with his first touch of the game from close range. Kone had a great chance to settle the game late on but amazingly fluffed his lines and hit the post from close range.

My Opinion:

My man of the match was Pienaar who came off the bench to score the winner. Everton put in a decent performance and should have scored another. Hull didn't get the decisions and may feel disappointed not to have taken home a point.

Stoke 0 v 0 West Brom

Goalless draw at the Britannia. Sessegnon had a close range shot saved early on before Amalfitano had his effort blocked by the goalie. The second half was more of the same as both teams struggled to create chances. Ireland blazed over from inside the box whilst Adam had a shot from the halfway line tipped over the bar. Sessegnon had the best chance of the game in the final few minutes but put his shot wide.

My Opinion:

My man of the match was Begovic who was impressive in goal. Stoke were poor and never looked likely to score whilst West Brom should have taken all three points.

Best Goal of the Day: Contenders: Oscar, Wilshere, Vaz Te, Cabaye, Ramsay, De Guzman: Winner: Wilshere

Shock of the Day: Southampton snatching a late draw away to United.

Performance of the Day: Arsenal were amazing today.
