Soccer Saturday Game Week 5

West Ham 2 v 3 Everton Morrison (31), Baines (61,82), Noble (pen,76), Lukaku (84), Noble sent off

Everton snatch victory with late burst. In an even first half, Everton's Mirallas had an early shot saved. However, it was West Ham who took the lead on the half an hour mark after Morrison scored with a deflected shot. Everton equalised on the hour mark after a brilliant free kick from Baines found the top corner. Everton continued to press for the win but Baines had his deflected shot saved. It was West Ham who took the lead as Nolan was brought down in the box by McCarthy whilst Noble coolly slotted home from the penalty spot. Unfortunately for Noble, his game didn't last much longer as he was sent off for his second bookable offence. Everton took full advantage of their extra man and amazingly turned the game around in the space of four minutes as they came back from 2-1 down to lead 3-2. Baines scored another free kick before Lukaku headed in at the far post as Everton pulled off an incredible comeback.

My Opinion:

My man of the match was Leighton Baines who scored two brilliant free kicks to put Everton back in the game twice. The first half was an even affair but Everton were dominant in the second half and deserved to win. An impressive performance from Lukaku up front for Everton who rightly got the winning goal.

Newcastle 2 v 3 Hull City Remy (10,44), Brady (26), Elmohamady (47), Aluko (76)

Hull shock Newcastle to take victory. Newcastle started the game brightly and took the lead through Remy who headed in off Cisse's shot. Krul pulled off a magical save to deny Graham but Brady was on hand to score from the rebound as Hull levelled. Livermore had a shot that deflected wide before Remy scored his second goal just before half time by curling a shot into the far corner as Newcastle led 2-1 at half time. The second half was largely controlled by Hull and they equalised again soon after the restart as Elmohamdy header went in off the post. With under 20 minutes left to go, Hull took the lead as Aluko pulled off a spectacular volley which went in via the inside of the post to shock Newcastle. It could have been 3-3 but Remy managed to put his shot wide from close range in the dying moments.

My Opinion:

My man of the match was Aluko for a brilliant winning strike. Remy was impressive for Newcastle but Hull deserve the credit for pulling off an amazing comeback.

Liverpool 0 v 1 Southampton Lovren (53)

Southampton shock Liverpool away from home. The first half contained plenty of Liverpool pressure but they couldn't find the back of the net. Henderson produced an early tame effort before Gerrard had a free kick well saved by Boruc. Moses chipped over the bar as Liverpool struggled to produce in front of goal. Southampton came out of the blocks quickly in the second half as Lallana had a shot saved before Lovren amazingly put the Saints ahead after heading in from a corner. With their tails up, Southampton continued to pressurise Liverpool and Osvaldo had another shot saved. Liverpool struggled to equalise as Gerrard had a free kick saved whilst Fonte cleared off the line. Mignolet saved Liverpool's blushes any further after producing a triple save from Shaw.

My Opinion:

My man of the match was Lovren who scored and was strong in defence. Liverpool were subdued and struggled in front of goal. They had a possible penalty shout as Sturridge went down but it just wasn't their day. It was a very strong performance from Southampton who played really well in the second half.

West Brom 3 v 0 Sunderland Sessegnon (20), Ridgewell (76), Amalfitano (90)

West Brom stroll to victory over Sunderland. Sessegnon put the home side ahead after 20 minutes by slotting home Sinclair's rebounded saved shot. Sunderland struggled to produce and opening whilst Johnson dragged wide. Amalfitano came close to putting West Brom two up but his shot deflected onto the top of the bar just before half time. Sunderland piled on the pressure in the second half but Altidore had a shot that deflected wide before Fletcher volleyed over. West Brom finished the game off with under 15 minutes to go as Ridgewell doubled their lead by volleying in at the far post. Amalfitano scored in the dying moments after driving his shot into the far corner as the Baggies cruised to victory.

My Opinion:

My man of the match was Amalfitano who had an impressive game. West Brom deserved to win as they created the better chances. Sunderland struggled but nothing went their way today.

Chelsea 2 v 0 Fulham Oscar (52), Mikel (84)

Chelsea win the derby. Fulham could have taken the lead after Bent was put through on goal but his shot was saved by Cech. Eto'o had a shot that deflected wide before Ivanovic saw his shot deflect wide before half time. Oscar put Chelsea into the lead early in the second half after tapping in from close range. Sidwell headed wide for Fulham whilst Ramires was denied a penalty appeal. Ramires blasted over before Torres had a header well saved. However, Mikel provided an unlikely source for a goal to double Chelsea's lead by scoring from close range.

My Opinion:

My man of the match was Oscar for a decent performance. Chelsea dominated large periods of the game and looked the most likely to score throughout. Fulham should have taken an early lead but Bent somehow failed to take the chance.

Norwich 0 v 1 Aston Villa Kozak (29)

Kozak gives Villa victory. Villa came close to opening the scoring in the third minute but Weimann's shot hit the post. Norwich were awarded a penalty three minutes later after a handball from Clark. However, Guzan managed to save the penalty from Snodgrass. Benteke had a shot that deflected wide before Van Wolfswinkel put an effort just wide. Villa went in front on the half hour mark as Kozak slotted home from close range. Norwich struggled in front of goal in the second half as Guzan saved a Snodgrass cross shot. Kozak had a shot blocked wide before Van Wolswinkel had a shot that deflected wide. Hooper came close in the final few minutes but his effort was pushed over the bar by Guzan.

My Opinion:

My man of the match was Brad Guzan who put in a great shift to deny Norwich. Norwich had their chances but were constantly denied by an in form Guzan. Villa played well but have their goalkeeper to thank.

Best Goal of the Day: Contenders included both Baines free kicks and Aluko. The winner goes to Aluko for his amazing volley.

Performance of the Day: Brad Guzan for an inspired effort in goal.

Upset of the Day: Hull City coming from behind twice to beat Newcastle away.
