Soccer Saturday Game Week 6

Man United 1 v 2 West Brom Amalfitano (54), Rooney (57), Berahino (67)

West Brom shock United. The game got off to a slow start but on the half an hour mark, Berahino headed the first chance of the game wide. United created a few openings as Rooney headed over the bar before Anderson headed onto the bar. Sessegnon blazed over from close range just before half time. West Brom came out in the second half strongly as Berahino had a shot saved before Almalfitano ran past the United defence and delicately chipped over De Gea to put the away team ahead. Rooney scored three minutes later to equalise after his free kick went past everyone and into the far corner. However, West Brom looked the team more likely to score again as Olsson headed onto the bar before Amalfitano had a free kick tipped over the bar. Eventually, West Brom's pressure paid off as Berahino smashed into the corner of the net from the edge of the box to put the away side 2-1 up. Januzaj had a shot saved, Fellaini had a goal ruled out for offside and Carrick had a shot saved United failed to equalise again.

My Opinion:

My man of the match was Almalfitano for a brilliant performance. Man United were very poor defensively and need to improve their defense. West Brom deserved to win as they played really well.

Aston Villa 3 v 2 Man City Toure (45), El Ahmadi (51), Dzeko (56), Bacuna (73), Weimann (75)

Villa late double sinks City. Man City were largely in control of the first half and created more openings. Milner scuffed wide early on, Nasri had a shot deflected wide and Toure was denied twice as the first half neared the close. However, Toure put City ahead on the brink of half time after converting from close range from a corner. Villa equalised six minutes into the second half as El Ahmadi struck past Hart with a low shot. The game wasn't level for long as Dzeko put City back in front after heading in a corner. However, in an amazing turn of events, Villa were ahead after scoring twice in the space of two minutes. Bacuna levelled for Villa by scoring with a free kick before Weimann took full advantage of Hart's gaffe from a long range ball downfield. Jovetic had a tame effort saved late on as Villa held on for victory.

My Opinion:

My man of the match was Weimann for scoring the winning goal. Villa took every chance they had and snatched an amazing win. City were dominant in the first half and rightly led at half time but they were very poor in the second half and defensive errors cost them dearly today.

Tottenham 1 v 1 Chelsea Sigurdsson (14), Terry (65), Torres sent off

Spoils shared as Terry gives Chelsea point. Tottenham took advantage of some early pressure and went ahead after Sigurdsson slotted past Cech at the near post. Ivanovic blasted high and wide as Chelsea failed to create a real opening. Oscar had a tame volley saved before Paulinho hit the post as half time approached. Torres found himself through on goal early in the second half but his effort was saved by Lloris. Chelsea did equalise after the hour mark as Terry headed in a Mata free kick. Torres was sent off with ten minutes to go after receiving a second yellow card for a leading elbow. Sigurdsson had a late chance but could only volley wide.

My Opinion:

My man of the match was Torres who looked strong and eager. Tottenham were the better team in the first half and deservedly led but they tired in the second half. Chelsea started slowly but grew into the match in the second half and rightly levelled the match. Not sure Torres should have been sent off for a second yellow but probably should have been sent off for his claw on Vertonghen.

Swansea 1 v 2 Arsenal Gnabry (58), Ramsay (62), Davies (81)

Arsenal tough out away win at Swansea. Arsenal had the better of the chances in the first half and came closest through Ramsay and Giroud who both shot wide of the post. However, Gnabry put the Gunners ahead just before the hour mark after shooting across Vorm from Giroud's pass. Ozil had a shot saved before Ramsay doubled Arsenal's lead by firing into the roof of the net after a quick break. Dyer and Bony both had their shots saved before Davies pulled one back for Swansea after tucking in a Bony pass.

My Opinion:

My man of the match was Ramsay who had an impressive game yet again. Swansea failed to create many openings but managed to at least score a late goal. Arsenal played well after a disappointing first half and have Ramsay to thank again for the win.

Fulham 1 v 2 Cardiff City Caulker (12), Ruiz (45), Mutch (90)

Spectacular Mutch goal gives Cardiff late win. Cardiff started the game well and took the lead after Caulker headed home from a corner. Turner had a header tipped over the bar whilst Karagounis had a shot well saved. Fulham equalised on the stroke of half time as Ruiz produced a special strike to curl in from long range. Campbell shot just over the bar in the second half before Berbatov headed over. In a dramatic finish, Cardiff went 2-1 up in the dying moments after Mutch produced a left foot screamer into the top corner.

My Opinion:

My man of the match was Mutch for producing a brilliant strike to win the game. Fulham were in the game but were denied a point after a stunning goal. Cardiff will be delighted to have taken all three points away at Fulham as they played really well.

Southampton 2 v 0 Crystal Palace Osvaldo (47), Lambert (49)

Saints strike partnership proves too much for Palace. The first half saw Southampton create the better chances as Schneiderlin had a header cleared off the line, Lambert had an effort tipped over the bar and had a free kick parried away. However, the home side took the lead early in the second half as Osvaldo scored with a low shot into the the bottom corner. Lambert doubled the home side's lead two minutes later with a free kick that went in via the inside of the post. Palace struggled and finally managed to produce a chance late on but Jerome could only shoot horribly over.

My Opinion:

My man of the match was Osvaldo for a decent performance up front. Southampton dominated the match and deserved to win comfortably. It was a very poor effort from Palace who will be worried after that.

Hull City 1 v 0 West Ham Brady (pen,12)

An early penalty is enough to claim victory for Hull. Hull took an early lead as O'Brien fouled Brady inside the penalty area and the referee awarded a penalty. Brady coolly slotted into the bottom corner from the spot as Hull went ahead. Tomkins had a header cleared off the line before Davies had his header cleared off the line and onto the top of the bar. Elmohamady came close but his header was saved onto the post. Not much happened in the second half as Livermore produced a low shot which hit the post and Rat had a late shot that went over.

My Opinion:

My man of the match was Brady for scoring the winning goal. Good win for Hull who took advantage of a dodgy penalty decision. West Ham just couldn't take their chances and paid the price.

Best Goal of the Day: Contenders: Amalfitano, Bacuna, Ruiz and Mutch. Winner: Mutch.

Performance of the Day: West Brom who deserved to win at Old Trafford.

Upset of the Day: Both Manchester teams losing.
