2013 Race 17 - Abu Dhabi Grand Prix (Yas Marina Circuit): Qualifying

Webber beats Vettel to pole in Abu Dhabi
Mark Webber narrowly beat Red Bull team mate Sebastien Vettel to pole position for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The Red Bulls locked out the front row but it was Mercedes who locked out the second row with Nico Rosberg ahead of Lewis Hamilton.

My Opinion:
Red Bull: Webber (pole), Vettel (2nd). A dominant qualifying session from Red Bull with a front row lockout. Webber edged Vettel to pole but I would not be at all surprised if Vettel claimed victory.
Mercedes: Rosberg (3rd), Hamilton (4th). Solid result for Mercedes who locked out the second row. Rosberg will be pleased to have outshone Hamilton but both will be looking for a podium finish.
Ferrari: Massa (7th), Alonso (10th). Ferrari have struggled in qualifying all season long and today was no different. Massa will be hoping to score some heavy points whilst Alonso has left himself with plenty to do in the race once again.
Lotus: Grosjean (6th), Raikkonen (22nd). Lotus had the third row locked out but Raikkonen was given a penalty which puts him in last place. Grosjean will be aiming for a podium finish.
Mclaren: Perez (8th), Button (12th). Perez outshone Button again and will look to score points whilst Button struggled and will have to work hard for any points.
Force India: Di Resta (11th), Sutil (17th). Di Resta just missed out on a top ten spot but will be looking to climb a few places in the race. Sutil struggled and will find it tough to score points.
Sauber: Hulkenberg (5th), Gutierrez (16th). Hulkenberg shone and will hope for a strong race from fifth. Gutierrez will struggle to score a point from so far back on the grid.
Toro Rosso: Ricciardo (9th), Vergne (13th). Ricciardo continues to show why Red Bull have signed him up for next year whilst Vergne will hope to score a few points.
Williams: Maldonado (14th), Bottas (15th). Maldonado narrowly beat team mate Bottas to 14th place but Williams have really struggled this season.
Marussia: Chilton (20th), Bianchi (21st). Marussia were the slowest car on track and both cars will start at the back ahead of Raikkonen. Chilton did however have the edge on Bianchi.
Caterham: Van Der Garde (18th), Pic (19th). Caterham won the battle of the beginner teams whilst Van Der Garde edged Pic.

Qualifying Result and Starting Grid:
1. Webber (Red Bull) 1.39.957
2. Vettel (Red Bull)
3. Rosberg (Mercedes)
4. Hamilton (Mercedes)
5. Hulkenberg (Sauber)
6. Grosjean (Lotus)
7. Massa (Ferrari)
8. Perez (Mclaren)
9. Ricciardo (Toro Rosso)
10. Alonso (Ferrari)

Performance of the Day: Hulkenberg qualifying in 5th place.
Shock of the Day: Alonso starting down in 10th.
Disappointment of the Day: Raikkonen starting at the back of the grid to serve a penalty.
