Community Shield (Wembley) 2013

Van Persie double gives Moyes first trophy at United

Manchester United 2 v 0 Wigan Athletic
Van Persie (6, 59)

David Moyes got off to the perfect start with his first competitive game in charge of Manchester United, winning 2-0 thanks to two goals from Robin Van Persie. United were in control against their championship side rivals for the majority of the game but it was United's star striker who shone after scoring twice. It wasn't long until United scored their first goal of the season as Dutch striker Van Persie scored with a powerful header into the far corner from a Patrice Evra cross. Van Persie scored again in the second half to give united a comfortable 2-0 lead on the hour mark after his shot was deflected into the Wigan goal. David Moyes will be pleased with his new team's effort and to get his hands on his first trophy as United manager.

My Opinion:

A great start to the new season for Man United. Admittedly it was only against and with the greatest respect Wigan but United and Moyes really needed to win after heavy pressure to do so. Robin Van Persie continued his brilliant form from last season to score twice which will no doubt have pleased Moyes. New recruit Wilfried Zaha had an impressive game after showing good energy and pace on the wing. Pleased with the win for United and am looking forward to how United adapt and play under a new manager this season.
