USPGA Championships, Oak Hill Country Club, NY Round 2

Dufner takes two shot USPGA lead after shooting 63

Leaderboard: -9 Dufner (63), -7 Scott (68), Kuchar (66), Furyk (68)

Jason Dufner stormed to the top of the USPGA leaderboard after a brilliant seven under par second round performance. The American drove straight and long throughout his round and sank continuous birdies to take a two shot lead going into the weekend. Adam Scott and Jim Furyk continued their fine form as they both shot 68 to remain in touching distance of Dufner. Matt Kuchar posted a four under par round of 66 to fire himself into a tie for second and will be looking to chase down the impressive Dufner.

My Favourites:

Justin Rose remains in the chasing pack after a solid round of 66, leaving him on -6 after his second round. Sergio Garcia lies on -3 after a round of 68 whilst Rickie Fowler will head into the weekend on -2 after scoring 68. Graeme McDowell went under par for the tournament after finishing his round with a 69 but Lee Westwood dropped three shots in a disappointing round of 73. Rory McIlroy will be happy to make the cut but there is still room for improvement after his round of 71. Tiger Woods failed to set the course alight again after a mixed round of 70 leaves him on plus 1 going into the weekend alongside Ian Poulter, Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson.

Big names who missed the cut:

With the cut being (3) there were plenty of high profile casualties.
(4) Bubba Watson after a 74. Schwartzel after a 73.
(5) Luke Donald after a 74.
(6) Ernie Els after a 72.

My Opinion:

Jason Dufner fully deserves his two shot lead at the midway point of the tournament after a brilliant seven under par round of 63. Adam Scott, Matt Kuchar and Jim Furyk lead a very strong chasing pack and will be looking to shoot low over the weekend to take advantage of any mistake from the Duffmeister. Good to see Justin Rose continue his great form this year with another solid round of 66. Rickie Fowler needs to find some magic to climb the leaderboard otherwise it could be another average tournament for him. Lee Westwood will be gutted to have dropped three shots after his strong opening round. Work to do over the weekend for Lee. Rory McIlroy looks to have found his game again but struggled to make a lot of birdies. Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson will both be looking for better things to happen in their next two rounds as they have both failed to set the course ablaze. Disappointed to see both Bubba Watson and Luke Donald miss the cut. Two poor rounds between them really cost them here.
