Monday Night Football Game Week 2

Chelsea hold Man United to goalless draw

Manchester United boss David Moyes(left) and Chelsea's Jose Mourinho

Manchester United 0 v 0 Chelsea

Chelsea played defensively and got the draw they came to get. Oscar had the first chance of the game but his shot was saved. United created chances but could not find a breakthrough as Van Persie fired into the side netting before Rooney's tame effort was saved. Cleverly saw his wild shot blast high and wide before Oscar could only produce a tame effort as the game went into half time at 0-0. The second half produced much more of the same as Welbeck fired high and wide before Cahill had his long range rocket saved by De Gea. There was a brief moment of real excitement as Schurrle smashed his shot onto the crossbar but the German was given offside. Rooney tried to force the issue towards the latter stages of the game but his long range shot was saved before seeing another effort saved by Cech as the game finished 0-0.

My Opinion:

The man of the match goes to Wayne Rooney who outshone everyone else. Mourinho set his side out for a defensive draw by playing Schurrle in the lone striker role. United really went for the win but neither Van Persie or Rooney could find the net. United really lacked the creative influence needed from a creative midfielder and will look to address that problem.

Performance of the Day: The Chelsea defence coped well with United's attacking threat.
