Super Sunday Week 1

Winning return for Mourinho

Crystal Palace 0 v 1 Tottenham Hotspur (Soldado 50(p))

A new look tottenham team created more chances in the first half than their newly promoted opposition. Dembele blazed over from long range before Sigurdsson had an a decent effort saved. Chadli headed over at the far post as the sides went into the break 0-0. Shortly into the second half, the referee decided that Moxey handled the ball inside the box and gave Spurs a penalty. New signing Soldado calmly slotted into the corner to give Tottenham the lead. Palace went looking for an equaliser but Gayle could only blaze over the bar. Sigurdsson then shot wide before Chadli later dragged wide. Defoe came on but could only drag his shot wide of the post before Lloris made a double save late on in the game to ensure Spurs took all three points.

My Opinion:

My man of the match goes to Chadli who looked dangerous throughout on the left wing for Spurs. A good start for AVB and Spurs to start with an away win. They will be looking to keep this kind of performance going to bolster their momentum. Crystal Palace will be disappointed to have lost to a penalty. They could very well have scored but for the brilliance of Hugo Lloris in the Spurs goal.

Chelsea 2 v 0 Hull (Oscar 13, Lampard 25)

Chelsea got off to a fast start under a second spell with manager Jose Mourinho although it was not the perfect start. Torres won Chelsea an early penalty after being fouled by Hull goalkeeper McGregor but the goalie made up for his mistake after saving Lampard's penalty. Hull were unable to hold on for much longer as a Torres through ball found Oscar who fired under McGregor to give Chelsea the lead. Lampard had an effort saved before he doubled Chelsea's lead with a fearsome free kick. Lampard had another effort saved before Hull managed to clear off the line from an Ivanovic header as half time closed in. It was a fairly uneventful second half as Chelsea dominated possession. Davis had his header saved by Cech before Schurrle chipped over the bar. Lampard went for goal again with another free kick late on but could only produce a shot that was well wide of the goal.

My Opinion:

The man of the match or me was Frank Lampard. He was highly involved during the game and produced one goal out of many efforts. Great first half display from Chelsea which will no doubt please Mourinho. Hull came back into the game after half time but couldn't produce any real quality in the final third.

Goal of the Day: Oscar. A brilliant team passing goal which Oscar finished off well.

Performance of the Day: Chelsea for their first half performance.
