Super Sunday Game Week 3

Arsenal and Liverpool claim important wins

Arsenal 1 v 0 Tottenham Giroud (23)

Giroud seals derby victory for Arsenal. Arsenal got off to a great start in the North London derby as Cazorla had his free-kick saved before Giroud opened the scoring for the home side. Walcott played Giroud in on goal and the Frenchman made no mistakes as he coolly flicked past Lloris to give Arsenal the lead. Walcott continued the pressure on the Spurs goal but his effort was saved. Tottenham managed to create their first chance but Townsend saw his shot saved. Chances were few and far between in the second half but Arsenal looked the more likely to score a second goal. Giroud had an effort that deflected wide before Defoe came on and had a shot well saved. Walcott had another shot saved as Arsenal held on for victory.

My Opinion:

My man of the match was Olivier Giroud for an impressive performance at the top of the Arsenal attack. A really decent performance from Arsenal overall as they looked the better team. Tottenham seemed like they needed more time to gel as a team but there were signs of improvement.

Liverpool 1 v 0 Manchester United Sturridge (4)

An early Sturridge goal is enough to seal victory for Liverpool. It was the perfect start for Liverpool as Sturridge managed to head in an Agger header from a corner to give the home side the lead. It was a fairly even first half as both teams tightened up their defences but the most notable action came just before half time as Van Persie and Skrtl squared up to each other as players from both teams had to pull them apart as tempers rose. Liverpool defended well in the second half as United failed to equalise. Nani had a strong shot saved well by Mignolet before Van Persie poked wide. Sterling nearly doubled Liverpool's lead in the dying moments but his shot was saved by De Gea.

My Opinion:

My man of the match was Daniel Sturridge who played well and got the winning goal. Liverpool defended really well throughout the game and held onto their lead well. United mounted plenty of pressure but lacked a creative spark and edge to their attack.

West Brom 0 v 2 Swansea Davies (22), Hernandez (83)

Swansea outclass West Brom. The opening half an hour was dominated by Swansea as they started off the better team. Shelvey shot over the bar from a free-kick before Davies opened the scoring with a wonderful finish from a Hernandez cross. Anelka tried to level the score but could only drag his shot low past the post. Bony had a shot saved before half time as Swansea controlled proceedings. McCauley tried and failed to equalise for West Brom but could only head over. For the remainder of the game it was all Swansea as Pozuelo had an effort that went over before Hernandez hit the crossbar. It wasn't long after that Hernandez did double Swansea's lead after slotting home from Michu's cross.

My Opinion:

My man of the match was Pablo Hernandez for a really impressive performance and rightly got his goal. West Brom lacked some composure in front of goal and desperately need a goalscorer. Swansea were the better team and deserved to win.

Goal of the Day: Contenders included Giroud and Davies. The winner was Davies.

Performance of the Day: Arsenal looked really good against a decent Spurs team.

Disappointment of the Day: Man United's performance was not encouraging for the rest of the season.
