USPGA Championships, Oak Hill Country Club, NY Round 3

Furyk leads Dufner by one shot going into the Final Round at USPGA

Leaderboard: -9 Furyk (68), -8 Dufner (71), -7 Stenson (69)

Jim Furyk kept his composure to take a one shot lead going into the final round at Oak Hill after a two under par score of 68. Jason Dufner found it tough to make birdies and in the end dropped one shot after carding a round of 71. Henrik Stenson and Jonas Blixt provided a strong Swedish charge for the title after strong rounds of 69 and 66 respectively leave them only a few shots behind with one round to go. Steve Stricker and Adam Scott both lie on -5 going into the final round and will be prepared to pounce if the leaders start to make mistakes.

My Favourites:

Lee Westwood (-3) bounced back from a poor second round to gain back two shots after a round of 68 whilst Rory McIlroy (-3) showed what he his capable of after a brilliant round of 67. Dustin Johnson (-2) tore up the course with a blistering 65. Rickie Fowler (E) struggled through his round and dropped two shots with a 72. It was a day to forget for Justin Rose (1) who had trouble after trouble during his round of 77. Another frustrating day for Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson who have struggled all week with this course. Woods (4) could only manage 73 whilst Mickelson (12) followed suit with his round of 73.

My Opinion:

Jim Furyk looks set to win this title after taking the lead with another composed under par round. A one shot lead is always going to be a nervy prospect to deal with but Furyk has the head to deal which such an occasion. Jason Dufner will be looking to have another special round in his quest for his maiden major trophy. It will certainly be a close contest and could go all the way to the 18th hole. The Swedes will have something to say though as both Henrik Stenson and Jonas Blixt will be looking to pounce on any mistake from the leaders. If a winner is going to come back from further behind, Adam Scott is my pick to come from the chasing pack. It should be a great end to the majors for this year with some brilliant golfers vying for the USPGA title.

US PGA: Furyk one clear of Dufner going into final round

Performance of the Day: Jonas Blixt for shooting 66 and putting himself in contention at the top.

Lowest Round of the Day: Dustin Johnson with 65.

Highest Round of the Day: Gary Woodland with 80.

Disappointment of the Day: Knowing that Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson will not be involved for the title.
